Two days ago, my third year students went to Oriolo R. to meet a publisher and talk about the book Il Ponte di Libri: how did it go?
THE IMPORTANCE OF READING AND THE PASSION FOR BOOKS by Samanta G. IIIB Racism is one of the ugliest thing that can ruin people's lives. Yesterday we met a book publisher who told us so many stories taken from books and who taught us so many things to live a better life every day through reading books: help other people, distinguish the right thing from the wrong one, always have confidence in yourself and never give up. She explained that where there is racism, books are often burnt and many children are not educated in countries all over the world. It happened in Nazi Germany. The story of a book she told us about is this: during the Nazy period there was a strong persecution and discrimination against the Jews and Jella Lepman, a Jewish woman, had to move with her family to another country. In Germany, the books were burnt and many Jews were killed, it was a horrible difficult period. When the Second World War ended, Jella Lepman decided to come back to Germany. She organized an exhibition of books for the little ones. Then, with the help of other states of the world, she established a library with books from all over the world in Munich: she helped a lot and made many children happy. AN INTERVIEW WITH DELLA PASSARELLI ABOUT JELLA LEPMAN by Roberta A. IIIB - Who was Jella Lepman? - Jella was a Jewish woman; she lived in the Nazi period and she was persecuted. Jella escaped from Stutgard ( Germany ). When the II World War ended, she was called back to Stutgard to help educating the Nazi children. - What did she do to educate these children? -She wrote a letter for each state and asked them to send their typical books for children and young adults. - Did every state accept to send the books? - Yes, all the state accepted, except Belgium, that answered: "No, Germany invaded us twice". Jella answered: "Send us some books, so you will not be invaded for the third time". Belgium accepted too. - What happened, then? - Thousands of books arrived from all over the world. And Jella created a great book show. Later, this show became a library. -Did Jella ever write a book? - Yes she wrote "Un Ponte di Libri", a beautiful book that tells her story.

In December I asked my third year students to plan a holiday in the American city of their choice, using the following travel planner: They did a really good job and they succeded in talking about their plans in detail. The most popular destinations were, by far, New york and Los Angeles: What about you? Are these your favourite American cities too? Why or why not? Send your commments.
